Over the Fence

Comments from our readers:

• Thank you True Citizen for creating a forum where your readers can report their observations without fear of retribution.

• I would like to know when the City of Waynesboro is going to finish and clean up their mess on Jones Avenue! There are children who live in that area, and, as we saw in the paper a couple of weeks ago, City of Waynesboro fire engines are not exempt from accidents caused by incomplete work started by the city administration!

• I can't agree more with the previous comments about Mayor George DeLoach and his distasteful property all over Waynesboro. The old Mexican restaurant and his office "The Rose Shoppe" are a disgrace. I wish that he would clean up all that junk.

• Einstein's theory of irregularity ... Don Lively, you made me laugh so doggone hard I had to change my clothes!

• Are the tax payers of Sardis aware that their police car and officer is patrolling North Burke County, South Richmond County and US 25 South to Perkins Community? Or maybe Sardis has expanded its city limits while I was not looking. Anyway, with gas prices as high as they are, the citizens need to be made aware.

• It pains me to feel compelled to write this - but Burke County has become so violent and dangerous for residents and visitors until we, as a family, are considering not attending any more family reunions there. Things are completely out of control, and we prefer to stay away.

• What is that nauseating smell coming from the area around the railroad track on East Sixth Street in Waynesboro? It smells like sour vomit manure! Whatever it is ... it needs to be ridded!

• Look at the cost to historic property owners in the form of

lost property rights for the city to obtain grants to publish "A Guide to Waynesboro Historic Preservation." It appears that the Historic Preservation Ordinance already is a single concise guide to Waynesboro's historic preservation efforts. Property owners must remember there are no free lunches. Anytime you accept a grant from a government agency you give up a part of your freedom. Remember how our council and mayor bypassed our rights to object to the formation of the Historic District and the passing of the ordinance publishing the public notice in the Augusta Chronicle instead of the Legal Organ of Burke County, which is the True Citizen. Let's find some funding to repair potholes, broken sidewalks and curbs instead of rewriting existing information that should not have been written (copied from other cities) in the first place.
