Guilty plea entered in nightclub shooting A man accused in a local nightclub shooting pleaded guilty after a jury was chosen for his trial. Jimmy Barnes, 60, of Sardis, was set to stand trial last Tuesday for shooting a man in Big Daddy's Night Club in September 2006. Instead, Barnes pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated assault. Two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime were dropped in the plea negotiation. Judge Carl C. Brown sentenced Barnes to serve seven years in prison and 13 years on probation. According to investigators, Barnes had argued with another man in the club and fired a single shot from his handgun. The shot missed the intended victim, however, and hit 30- year-old Latrell Scott in the cheek. Scott was treated at MCG Health and released shortly after. |
