Vogtle moves forward on two new reactors

      Burke County is one step closer to two new nuclear reactors. Southern Nuclear Operating Company filed an application Monday morning with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to construct and operate two additional reactors at Alvin W. Vogtle Nuclear Generating Plant.

Disaster center will close Thursday

Customer threatens Wal-Mart employee with pocketknife

      An angry Wal-Mart customer pulled a knife on an employee outside the store last Thursday. Arrest warrants were issued for Reginald Hughes, 15, after he tried to stab a woman who was escorting him from the store, according to a report filed at the Waynesboro Police Department.
