Officers nab suspected dealer

      Investigators kicked in the door of a Hale Street apartment last Wednesday and arrested a suspected dealer. Thomas Wesley Wright, 25, was taken into custody after officers and drug dogs found marijuana, ecstasy and two pistols in his residence.

Two injured in weekend stabbings

      Police are investigating two unrelated weekend stabbings that resulted in the injuries of a teenager and a Waynesboro man. Around 1:30 p.m. Saturday, 17-year-old Brandon Jordan was stabbed "through the face" following an argument on Davis Road.

      Deputies are looking for an absconded sex offender. Patrick W a y n e Coke r, 2 9 , has been una ccounted for since late February when deputies did a routine residency check at his Shell Bluff Landing home, according to Sgt. Annette Hodge of the Burke County Sheriff 's Office.

Inmate injured in jail fight

      An inmate who tried to break up a fight in the Burke County Jail ended up in the emergency room. The victim needed 12 staples in his head to close the wound after fellow inmate Kevin Bernard Herndon, 24, pushed him against a cell and proceeded to punch and kick him.

Guilty plea entered in nightclub shooting

      A man accused in a local nightclub shooting pleaded guilty after a jury was chosen for his trial. Jimmy Barnes, 60, of Sardis, was set to stand trial last Tuesday for shooting a man in Big Daddy's Night Club in September 2006.
