Spartans record region win
Monday brought the Spartans' first loss on the diamond this season, but they also picked up their first region win to improve their record, 6-1, 1-0. They defeated Memorial Day School 5-4 on March 18 to claim that region victory, with pitcher DJ Johnson delivering 9 strikeouts and giving up just 5 walks in eight innings. Hamp Wade was 3-4 with a homerun and 2 RBIs, and DJ Johnson also had a homer and 2 RBIs. The first game in a doubleheader against Curtis Baptist on March 24 did not offer much promise to the Spartans as they fell 12-4, but they turned their luck around in the second game, defeating the Crusaders 10-4. DJ Johnson again pitched a phenomenal game with 5 strikeouts, and Wade closed the game, adding 2 strikeouts of his own. Wade led the Spartan offensive again, going 3-5 with 2 doubles, a single and 2 RBIs. Jamie Smith was 2-4 with 2 singles and 1 RBI. The Spartans play at Briarwood on Monday, March 31, at 4:30 p.m.
