State competitors Taylor Meadows, left, and Brooke Hargrove recently competed at the State Literary Meet after they both claimed second place at the region meet. On the state level, Meadows finished fourth in personal essay, with a score of 163 out of a possible 200; and Hargrove finished fifth in argumentative essay, with 155 points out of 200. The pair was also part of a group who attended the Young Writers' Conference at Brewton Parker College in Mt. Vernon held earlier this year. At the conference, Katie Reeves received first place for her entry in a seminar called "How to Analyze a Film Without Being Obnoxious." She received a cap from the Sundance Film Festival and a T-shirt from the conference. Other EBA students attending that event were Kim Dixon, Lily Broome and Sarah Reynolds. Contributed
