10 years ago: March 25, 1998

Fifty-one-year-old Terri Conrad of Hephzibah died after a fall at Plant Vogtle. A pipe fitter, Conrad suffered several chest injuries when she fell more than 20 feet during refueling operations.

Burke County and the City of Waynesboro agreed to equally share the cost of providing utilities to the new Augusta Tech campus.

25 years ago: March 23, 1983

Three men and a woman, all from Bunswick, were arrested after an armed robbery at Taylor's Drug Store. Owner Dennis Taylor was robbed and tied up after he was lured to the store by the woman who said she needed a prescription for her husband.

Roy F. Chalker Sr. was honored by the Georgia Press Association and the Georgia General Assembly for 50 years of service to the newspaper industry in the state.

50 years ago: March 27, 1958

Polly Blount, 18-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Whit Blount, was named Waynesboro's entry in the "Miss Golf" contest to be held in Augusta preceding the Masters Tournament. Gloria Mills, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Mills, was selected to represent Sardis in the contest.

John Dent of Dent's Grocery announced his store was moving from Seventh Street to a new location on Shadrack Street next to Mundy-Shuman Furniture Co.

75 years ago: March 24, 1933

S.A. Gray was appointed acting postmaster of Waynesboro.

United Five and Ten announced the formal opening of its new store in Waynesboro.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed legislation legalizing the sale of beer and wine with no more than 3.2 percent alcohol content.
