Mr. Eddie Barton Claxton

Mr. Eddie Barton Claxton, 81, of Waynesboro, Ga., beloved husband of the late Elsie Mae Nunley Claxton, entered into rest Saturday, March 22, 2008, at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, at Botsford Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Dixon officiating.

Mr. Claxton will lay-in-state one hour prior to the service.

Interment services followed at Burke Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Claxton was born in Johnson County, Ga., to the late Mary Tapley Claxton and Zack Claxton Sr.

Before his retirement Mr. Claxton was an employee for E.I. DuPont and a farmer. He attended Botsford Baptist Church.

The family received friends Monday, March 24, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers were Tony Claxton, Gary Claxton, Rocky Claxton, Adam Cushman, Ashley Neal and Jerry Long.

Family members include a son, David Claxton (Bobbi) of Waynesboro; two stepdaughters, Virginia Jordan (Harvey) of Edison, Ga., and Mary Francis McGowan of Hazlehurst, Ga.; two sisters, Shirley Hall of Augusta and Joanne Cushman (Jack) of Martinez; two brothers, Z.J. Claxton (Elizabeth) of Grovetown and Glenn P. Claxton (Janice) of Harlem; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Claxton was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy M. Claxton and Franklin Claxton.
