Volunteers still needed for emergency response Though Burke County's pandemic influenza drill is over, the call for volunteers is not. Burke County still needs more community members to volunteer for its Medical Reserve Corps, according to Preston Harpe of the Georgia Division of Public Health. The Medical Reserve Corps is called upon in case of large-scale emergencies in Burke County. Harpe said the local MRC is still about 200 volunteers short of the number it needs to effectively respond to emergencies. Those who join are not required to have any previous experience and will be provided with any necessary training. For more information or to get involved, contact Harpe at 706- 667-4277 or the Burke County Health Department at 706-554- 3456. |
