Icy morning risky for blueberry crop
 | | Icy morning risky for blueberry crop Freezing temperatures kept one local farmer up all night eyeing the thermometer. Dick Byne kept his sprinklers pumping water onto his delicate blueberry blooms to protect them from frost damage. Though he said the temperature on his farm dropped to 31 degrees at 5 a.m. Tuesday, he believes his blueberry bushes made it through without extensive injury. "I see a lot of white and plenty of bees pollinating in my weakest areas, but I won't really know until later this week," Byne said. Last year, Byne lost his entire crop of blueberries to a late freeze. Contributed |
