Bear golfer John Keller shot his way to his second top-five tournament finish in as many weeks Saturday.

The Burke County High School junior placed fourth after shooting 71 at the TaylorMade-Adidas Invitational hosted at the Waynesboro Country Club.

Fellow Bear Evans Horton rounded out the top 10 with a 75. Their totals, along with Josh Phillips' 81 and Logan Fairley's 83, made up the team's 310 and put them sixth in the field of 16 teams. The Academy of Richmond County team took home the trophy with a 294.

Coach Wade Marchman said it was the Bears' lowest score of the year, and the team now needs to work on consistently shooting in the 70s in order to compete for the state championship.

"We have different guys achieving that at different times," he said. "We just need to all get together."

This weekend, the varsity boys (48-14) will play in the Warner Robins Invitational, which will bring together 24 teams from across the state.

The Lady Bears (3-2) took advantage of a rematch against Cross Creek High School earlier in the week.

Last Monday, they defeated the Lady Razorbacks 102-106.

Freshman Morgan Quick shot 48 and was the first Burke County girl to shoot below 50 this year.

Mallorie Shaw shot 54 to help the team claim the victory.

The Lady Bears will face Hephzibah High School and Emanuel County Institute tomorrow (Thursday).

The junior varsity boys (3-0) also edged their way past Cross Creek last Monday. The Bears shot 179 to the Razorbacks' 180.

Mitch Mitchell led the team with his 42 and was closely followed by Omar Walden, who shot 43. Patrick Mobley finished with 46, and Jesse James shot 48.

The JV team will play its last match against Hephzibah and ECI tomorrow (Thursday).
