From the Blotter Window smasher A Waynesboro man was arrested after fleeing the scene of one crime and turning up two hours later and committing another. Charles Edward Cooper, 45, of Magnolia Acres Apt. 31, was arrested for criminal trespass just past midnight Saturday after he broke a window at the Open Door Café. According to a report, officers arrived at the Myrick Street café to find an intoxicated Cooper detained on the sidewalk. An employee told officers that Cooper had gotten mad when he was denied entry because the café was closing, and he hit the window with his fist. A witness also supported the employee's statement, the report said. A few hours earlier, an Eighth Street resident called police to report Cooper had knocked on his bedroom window until it broke. The Waynesboro Police report said Cooper appeared intoxicated at the time and admitted to having broken the window, although he said he was just trying to get the other man's attention. He offered to pay for the damage but said he had no money at the time and then fled the scene as officers prepared to assess the damage. Dog-gone A squirrel dog is missing, and its owners think the neighbors may have dog-napped it. On Tuesday, Jan. 29, the dog's owner said he and his family had recently been to court in a harassment case involving their neighbors. According to a Burke County Sheriff's Office report, the man let his dog out that same day, and it never returned. As he stood in the yard last Tuesday, the man watched his neighbor pull into the driveway, and he told deputies he could see her hiding the dog. A few days later, another report filed by a woman living in the home stated her children, ages 8 and 9, had been harassed by the neighbor asking if they wanted their dog back. Rain on their parade A Waynesboro woman contacted authorities after discovering her husband's Shrine Club go-kart had been stolen. According to the report, witnesses saw two unknown young black men remove the go-kart from the woman's Woodview Lane home, place it on a trailer and then flee. The woman said she was told a third male driver waited in a white Tahoe with tinted windows with a trailer attached to it and a green camouflage fourwheeler on it. Witnesses said they attempted to follow the men, who were between the ages of 17-21 and wearing hooded shirts, but the driver was speeding and driving recklessly. The woman said the go-kart is gray with a roll bar and a black and red checkered seat. A removable placard reading "Alee Shrine Temple" is on the rear of the go-kart, the horn is broken and the gas tank is held on by bungee cords. |
