Ten arrested in county roadblock

      Ten motorists were arrested during a Friday night roadblock, and deputies say we can expect more soon. Thanks to $26,000 in grants, mostly Homeland Security, the sheriff's office purchased a mobile unit to be used in safety checks.

Inmate attacked by murder suspect

      A murder suspect was charged with simple battery after attacking an inmate accused of sex crimes against a 15-yearold. Michael Craig Fields, 40, was arrested inside Burke County Jail Thursday afternoon after he began punching 36- year-old John Fitzgerald Herrington.
