Letters to the Editor Freedom, national security? Editor: When listening to preachers, politicians and talk host media, I learned how to "eat the meat and throw out the bones." I study the Bible well enough to know if a preacher is speaking from "The Word of God." I read a little about past presidents and American history to understand all presidents make huge mistakes. The Constitution teaches where each candidate intends to lead our country. When we have family, friends and acquaintances of different ethnic, cultural and income backgrounds we may easily tell if a talk show host is in tune to us as everyday citizens. Preachers, politicians and talk show hosts are people of influence, and they are necessary for the protection of our freedom. Our primary concern for our freedom and national security is our strong military. Yes, there are numbers of people of influence who have no interest in protecting our freedom and that is the reason we study; "eat the meat and throw out the bones." When we go to the polls and vote, we are making decisions for all individuals concerning our life in America. Are you for freedom? National security? Pro-Life? Abolishing the IRS? Education improvement? Quality Health Care (without standing in line? What is your opinion concerning immigration? I would like to read what other voters in Burke County have to say concerning the elections in 2008. SaDonnia Boland Waynesboro Thanks newspaper Editor:
Thank you so much to The True Citizen for the publicity given to the Edmund Burke Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution over the past year. We, all the Burke County organizations, are so fortunate to have a hometown newspaper like The True Citizen. Who's dog is it? Editor: This letter is about the child attacked by a bulldog. I really hate to say I told you so Burke County. In all the letters that I have written on this subject, I have said that this would happen. Until the county realizes that they have got to have a dog pound and a dog warden this is going to happen again and again and again. It was said in your article that they're looking for the owner of that dog. There is no owner, I can almost guarantee you .The dog is a stray dog and was hungry. That is why it was trying to drag the little five year old back in the field. Just think what the outcome would have been if the mother had not been there to kick the dog in the head. Picture that in your mind. Just think of the trauma that little girl went through and is no doubt still going through. She will suffer from this even in her adult life. I've tried to tell the county through my letters that they should have a licensing program for all dogs in the county. I have told them that it would help them pay for the dog pound and the dog warden. The dog warden would be the census taker for the dogs by going to every residence. I also called the Department of Agriculture in Atlanta and was told that if the county went through our local senator there might be some grants available to help build the dog pound. Come on Burke County, do something. The next little girl might not have her mother there to beat the dog off. Then what will everybody say? If they can't find an owner to that dog I guess the dog belongs to the County (right?). R.D. Manchester Blythe |
