Community helps Jaycees raise more than $20,000

Paired with donations from the Burke County community, the Waynesboro Jaycees fundraising and tree sales helped provide a better Christmas for 235 of families in our area.

This year, the Empty Stock- ing fundraiser generated $22,085.60 which enabled the Jaycees to give gifts to children of needy families who may otherwise have gone without on Christmas morning.

The Jaycees themselves were busy raising money, spending countless hours selling trees in order to contribute their own chunk to the fund. According to Jaycee Scott DuMars, tree sales brought in nearly $5,000 this year.

Contributions from Burke County schools totaled $7,815.60, with Blakeney Elementary School giving the largest donation of $1,900. S.G.A. Elementary School raised $1,800, followed by Burke County High School, $1,500; Burke County Middle School, $1,415.60; and Waynesboro Primary School, $1,200.

DuMars thanked the community for its generous donations again this year.

The Waynesboro Jaycees will accept donations to the Empty Stocking Fund at anytime during the year.
