The race is on.
Tuesday morning, Gloria Frazier stood at the Burke County Court House steps and announced she'll run again for her District 123 seat on the Georgia House of Representatives.
She's held the seat since January of this year, after entering the 2006 primary unopposed.
That won't be the case this year.
When Democrats go to the polls for the July 15 primary, they'll choose between her and A.K. Hasan - a former Richmond County Board of Education member and Augusta city councilman.
Hasan announced his candidacy back in November, pushing for economic growth in the "Siamese sisters" - Burke and Richmond counties.
No Republicans have publicly thrown their hats in the race.
Representative Frazier, a Hephzibah resident, said her first order of business will be working on Georgia's water plan.
"We've got to make sure we have enough water for Plant Vogtle's new reactors," she said.
She also wants to establish school based health centers in both Burke and Richmond counties.
Representative Frazier said that since her election, she and colleagues have been working on a bill that would add sickle cell anemia screening to routine blood tests that are required for marriage licenses.
