STAFF - ELIZABETH BILLIPS George DeLoach takes the oath to become Waynesboro's mayor as his wife Jane looks on.

A new mayor and new councilman were welcomed inside Waynesboro's chambers Monday night.

Former Mayor Jesse Stone passed the gavel to newly elected George DeLoach who, in turn, swore in new Ward 2 councilman Herman Brown.

Brown replaced veteran councilman and vice-mayor Neal Leonard Sr. who stepped down due to health problems.

Councilman James "Chick" Jones was named vice-mayor following a 3-1 vote.

Mayor DeLoach swears in veteran councilmen Willie Roy Williams, left, and Bill Tinley, far right, along with newly elected Herman Brown, center. Vice-mayor Neal Leonard Sr. received a standing ovation for his 15 years of service to the city of Waynesboro. After passing the gavel, former Mayor Jesse Stone was honored for the many projects and programs he initiated during his four years in office. Councilman Chick Jones will replace Leonard as Waynesboro's vice-mayor.
