Three-vehicle crash blamed on drunk driver
By Elizabeth Billips Associate Editor

A drunk driver caused a threecar pileup on New Year's Eve which injured her and another drunk driver.

According to a report filed at the Burke County Sheriff's Office, the accident occurred just after 8 p.m. when Patricia Rhodes Jones, 43, of Waynesboro, failed to yield while turning off Highway 56 North onto Bates Road.

She struck a Nissan driven by Eric Jerome Mobley, 38, also of Waynesboro, causing major damage to both vehicles.

A third driver, Willie Lee Warren, who was stopped at the intersection, was apparently hit by Jones' car as it spun out of control.

Jones and Mobley were transported to Burke Medical Center for treatment; however, Warren was not injured.

According to a spokesperson from the Georgia State Patrol office, Jones and Mobley have both been charged in the accident.

Jones was transported from the hospital to Burke County Jail where she was booked for DUI and failure to yield.

Mobley was charged with DUI and driving with a suspended license.

Blood-alcohol results on both drivers are still pending, the spokesperson said.
