Pregnant clerks robbed at gunpoint

Investigators are looking for a pair of gunmen who held up two pregnant women at Best Western. "Both women were in their last trimester," said chief investigator Gene Boseman of the Waynesboro Police Department. The search for a missing Waynesboro man ended Saturday morning when a pedestrian spotted his body and wrecked motorcycle in a ditch. Authorities plan stiffer searches for drugs

Law enforcement and school officials plan to dig deeper for drugs in local public schools. A policy adopted by the Burke County Board of Education (BOE) last week will soon allow law enforcement officials to conduct more thorough searches when they bring canines to the schools to sniff out drugs. Security footage photos of Sunday night's armed robbery at Dollar General have been released. Officers say one gunman tied up the clerk and dragged her into a back office while the other robber forced the manager to open the safe. Jones Lake is a little over 50 years old. It started out as a popular recreational lake that was the site of fishing rodeos and even a statewide water skiing contest. Two Waynesboro men were shot within five hours of each other. It began around 10 p.m. Saturday when 48-year-old Linwood Kent, the man who was shot in the mouth and back outside The Hole Aug. 5, took another bullet. Burke County High School's 2008 seniors held steady on SAT performance. The average score among last year's BCHS seniors who took the college-readiness exam was 1,353, the same average recorded by 2007 seniors, according to data released by the Georgia Department of Education.
