All-star team prepares for district tourney

      The Burke County Recreation Department's Midget Boys All- Star team is gearing up for the district tournament this weekend. They'll head off to Lyons for their first games Saturday morning and play through the following week if they pull off enough wins in the double elimination tournament.

      Austin Daniel, 13, is pictured receiving the Striped Bass Conservation Coalition Youth Angler of the Year award. He fished tournaments in six different lakes in four states and will compete in the national championships at Lake Hartwell in November.

DNR accepts applications for quota hunts

      The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division (WRD), reminds hunters that applications for quota hunts in Georgia are now being accepted. The quota hunts offer sportsmen opportunities to pursue alligator, deer, waterfowl and turkey, as well as participate in State Park hunts.
