Bears claim first region championship on golf course
      The alligator that surfaced in the pond on the 16th didn't stop them. After the Bears claimed their school's first region championship in golf, a few of them, including their coach Wade Marchman, couldn't resist a celebratory swim.

Love-ly shutout puts Bears in playoffs
      Love prevailed in Burke County Friday night. Burke County High School senior Brandon Love pitched a shutout to help the Bears beat Benedictine Military School and secure their spot in the playoffs for the first time in seven years.

Bears place second in Region 3-AAA
      It turns out he can fly on the track, too. All season long, crowds have been watching Burke County High School junior Damion Johnson fly to the far end of the long jump pit. He was the man to beat. But when injuries got the best of Burke County's top sprinters at the Region 3-AAA meet last weekend, Johnson stepped up to fill the gap.

Spartans slide by Gators
On the diamond
      The Spartans' most recent baseball game is one their coach says he won't forget. The 8-6 region nail-biter against Bulloch Academy's Gators last Tuesday could have easily turned to disappointment for EBA's young ball team. "It was the most intense game I've ever seen," head coach Aaron Phillips said.

EBA golfers finish season, Smith named All-State
      While high school golf is now over for some of them, Edmund Burke Academy's team can be proud of the 2008 season. The golfers competed in the GISA AA State tournament Monday, finishing fourth in a crowd of 16 teams, with senior Bernie Smith gaining All-State recognition. Smith, who shot a 73, was one stroke behind the tournament's low medalist.

BCMS Cubs Blue-White football game
      Burke County fans will have a chance to see the Cubs in action on the gridiron this Friday, May 2. Some 44 Burke County Middle School seventh graders will dress out for the Blue and White Spring Game, an inter-squad scrimmage, as they conclude their spring practice. The Cubs will kick off in the Bear Den at Burke County High School at 5:30 p.m.
