Vendors sought for Boss Hog
The Downtown Organization of Retailers (DOOR) is now accepting vendor applications for the Boss Hog Cook-off.
The event will kick off with an outdoor Hushpuppies concert on Friday, May 9 - then culminate Saturday, May 10 with a Georgia state championship cook-off, sanctioned and officiated by the Kansas City Barbeque Society.
According to coordinator Amy Lively, the May 10 cook-off will be held in conjunction with an all-day festival on the grounds of the Mr. Golf Carts Warehouse and Distribution Center (Old Perfection Complex) on Highway 56 North.
The event will take the place of the 'Boro Beach Blast, which DOOR formerly held in downtown Waynesboro on the last day of school.
While food vendors are not needed for the Boss Hog, Lively says there is plenty of room for booths and children's activities.
The festival will run from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 10, and a spot may be reserved for a fee of $30.
Lively says she is expecting a large crowd, especially for the Saturday afternoon Mutton Bustin' Championship, sponsored by Burke County High School's FFA.
According to organizers, the pint-size rodeo, complete with chutes and clowns, will feature elementary aged children competing atop the backs of sheep. Prizes will be awarded to those who stay on the longest.
