Bears find rhythm on the diamond
      The Bears turned their record around on the baseball field last week. The Burke County High School team (5-2) racked up three wins, two of them over AAAA schools. "It was 180 degrees from the first two games, but we still have a ways to go," head coach Sean Tiernan said of his team's performance.

Bears sail past Lakeside on track
      The Bears blew Lakeside High School away last week in track and field when Burke County's boys tallied more than three times as many points as the Columbia County school. The Bears earned 137 points to the Panthers' 37 and claimed 13 first-place finishes.

Burke County golfers bag wins
      Bear golfer John Keller shot his way to his second top-five tournament finish in as many weeks Saturday. The Burke County High School junior placed fourth after shooting 71 at the TaylorMade-Adidas Invitational hosted at the Waynesboro Country Club.

Hot bats, strong arms lead to wins
      Back-to-back losses - that's what EBA's baseball team handed John Hancock Academy last week. The Spartans (3-0) defeated the Rebels 2-0 in their first home game of the season last Tuesday, March 11, and then traveled to Sparta on Thursday, where they defeated JHA once again, 11-3.

      After a successful practice match against Briarwood and Thomas Jefferson academies, Edmund Burke's tennis teams were disappointed to both fall 0-5 to region opponent Frederica Academy this past Monday.

Rogers posts first place finish for EBA
      Edmund Burke Academy tracksters started the season last Wednesday, March 12, with a handful of top-five finishes. Senior Alex Rogers dominated his competition in the triple jump, placing first with a distance of 39 feet, 9 inches. He also finished third in the long jump.

Middle school Spartans win four in a row
      Edmund Burke Academy's middle school baseball team picked up four victories this week to improve its record to 7-0. The Spartans swept a doubleheader from Thomas Jefferson Academy on Friday, March 14, 3-0 and 9-8.

      Burke County High School's boys and girls tennis teams were handed losses from the Academy of Richmond County Monday. The girls lost 5-0 and the boys 3-2.

Cheering to the top
      Madison Osborn, 7, of Hephzibah recently competed as part of the Mpact Panther Cheerleading Squad of Evans and won first place in the COA Open National Cheerleading Competition held in Macon earlier this month.
