Good Neighbors
      When tornados hit this area over the weekend, many of us realized all over again how much we need and depend on each other- the members of this community. Though the damage was both scattered and isolated, it was nonetheless devastating to the families who were hit. The cleanup will continue for the next several weeks.

Looking Back
      10 years ago: March 18, 1998 The Burke County Hospital Authority and Health Span Inc. reached an agreement which would turn over management of the hospital to a group of local doctors. A public hearing would be necessary before the agreement could be finalized.

      We can all be thankful that Burke County was spared the loss of life and injuries in Saturday evening's tornado that ripped through our area. My husband, Eddie, and I rode around Sunday morning and afternoon surveying the damage and taking photos.

      Golly, Johnny, are you serious? We kept hearing the rumors, but we never quite believed them. Johnny Isakson is thinking of giving up his U.S. Senate seat to run for governor. Now we know the stories are true. Isakson's folks say the senator will announce his plans after the 2008 presidential election. If it's a go for governor, he had better get busy.

Capitol Report
      This week, the House has crossed the 30th day of our 40 day legislative session. This is the day that a bill must have passed at least one body in order to have a chance of becoming law. A huge surprise was a second opportunity to vote on tax reform for Georgia's citizens.
