Police crack down on loitering
      Three young men are paying big for standing around. Barry Jenkins, 23, Kellington Chandler and LaBradford Brown, both 18, are staring at six months of probation each, plus a combined $2,600 in fines after Municipal Court Judge Percy Blount sentenced them for loitering.

      Lively livestock Burke County residents reported property damage from the hooves and snouts of wayward livestock. Last Thursday, an Eagle Pass Road resident told officers her neighbor's pigs kept getting loose and coming into her yard. During the latest escape, they destroyed her garden and rooted up her flowers.

      The following arrests and citations were reported by the Burke County Sheriff's Office for the past week: Monday, March 10 • Michael Sello, 44, of 186 Lanier Drive, Statesboro, was arrested by the Georgia State Patrol for driving with a suspended or revoked license and violation of the Georgia Open Container Law. A $1,675 property bond was posted.

Pocketknife, pot found in book bag search
      A book bag search conducted recently at Burke County High School revealed a pocketknife and marijuana. The search was conducted by campus security and school personnel Friday, March 7, as students entered the building.
