From the Blotter Scout's honor Police are looking for a thief of the worst kind. Last Thursday, a Burke County woman reported that nearly $1,000 in Girl Scout money had been stolen from her home. The stash, which was taken from her bedroom, contained both cash and checks. Taxing discoveries Three Burke County residents got bad news when they tried to file their taxes. In unrelated incidents, two local women learned that someone else had already used their social security numbers to file taxes. In one case, a woman with the same name in a neighboring town had reportedly been using the wrong number every year since 2004. The third resident called police last week when she tried to file her taxes and learned someone had already claimed both her and her son as dependents. The victim told police both social security cards were stolen from her purse earlier this year. Oh, baby Two pregnant women got roughed up during altercations last weekend. Just before 3 a.m. Saturday, a woman who was 24 weeks pregnant was taken to Burke Medical Center after another woman reportedly pushed her down and beat her at Club Paradise. After being treated for minor injuries, she told officers her baby's daddy was the offender's boyfriend. Three days earlier another pregnant woman reported that a teenager blocked her driveway, then sprayed mace in her face as she tried to get out of her car. The teenager claimed the pregnant woman tried to run over her, then tried to jump her. The teenager affirmed she'd sprayed mace but told police she did so because she didn't want to fight a pregnant woman. A runner A Burke Medical Center employee escaped injury after a patient hit her with a heart monitor box. According to the police report, officers picked up the 65-year-old patient behind Huddle House right after the incident. The employee told officers she attempted to stop the man when she spotted him trying to leave the hospital. He got away after hitting her arm with a heart monitor box that was still connected to him. The employee did not want to press charges, and the man was calmed down and taken back to his room. DOTeed Off A Department of Transportation employee called deputies after noticing some funny business at their Highway 17 workshop. The employee was trying to crank a DOT van when she smelled gas and got out for a closer look. She saw that gas was running out of the fuel line and a knife had been dropped underneath. |
