EBA nets pair of wins on the court
      The boys and girls tennis teams at Edmund Burke Academy both claimed victories to open their season on the court. The girls defeated Thomas Jefferson Academy 5-0, and the boys had a 3-2 win. TJA did not have a full team on either side, and EBA was able to claim three forfeits - two for the girls and three for the boys.

Bears sink tourney wins
      The Bears got off to a good start on the golf course last week. The Burke County High School boys golf team (19-5) walked away from Applewood Golf Course last Wednesday with a win over Cross Creek High School and collected two more over South Effingham and Richmond Hill high schools the next afternoon at Lost Plantation near Savannah.

Spartans swing into golf season
      They didn't win it, but the Spartan golf team fared well at the Frederica Invitational as they rounded out the top five. The team traveled to the Coastal Pines Golf Club in Brunswick on Monday, March 3, and coach Mike Smith said the course's conditions did not help his golfers.

      Southpaw Steven Frankman hurls a pitch during the home opener at Burke County High School last Wednesday. The players battled through the bitter cold before falling to Evans High School 23-8.

Young Spartans win big
      The Edmund Burke Academy middle school baseball team opened its season Saturday, March 1, by sweeping a double header against John Milledge Academy 14-0 and 6-1.
