Spartans fall in first-round of state playoffs

      The Gatewood Gators ended Edmund Burke Academy's season with a 57-38 win during the first round of state playoffs last Thursday. But for head coach Todd Layton, the Spartans accomplished their goals this season - not only making the AA state playoffs but finishing the season 12-13, 2-7 … a vast improvement from their 1-17 record just last season.

Burke County wrestlers disappointed at state

      Although the Bears were disappointed in their showing at the state wrestling tournament, most of them will get another shot next year. Most members of Burke County High School's young team were eliminated in the first round of the Georgia High School Association's State Wrestling Championship held in Atlanta last week.

      The young lady hoopsters of Burke County's Recreation Department dribbled their way to a second place finish in the district last week.
