Two arrested in drug sting
      A surprise search of a north Waynesboro home landed two local men in jail. Alfonzo Shondell Green, 34, was arrested inside his Westgate Drive residence after Burke County deputies knocked on his door with a warrant late Thursday afternoon.

      Love hurts A Waynesboro man was hit where it hurts. On Valentine's Day, he called police to report that 15 suits and approximately 50 ties were stolen from his bedroom closet. The victim told police that he and his girlfriend had been in an argument earlier that day and that she may have been the culprit.

Truck driver sent to jail for fatal wreck
      A Waynesboro truck driver was sent to jail last week for an accident on Highway 56 North that claimed a Richmond County deputy's life. Marshall Jordan Jr., 56, was sentenced to 12 months in jail by Superior Court Judge Duncan D. Wheale after a jury found Jordan guilty of homicide by vehicle in the second degree.

Craig takes oath as judge
      Former District Attorney Danny Craig officially became Superior Court Judge Craig Monday. He was sworn in to his new post by Gov. Sonny Perdue in Atlanta. Judge Craig will hear cases in the Augusta Judicial Circuit, which includes Burke, Richmond and Columbia counties.

Police citations payable online
      Most citations issued by Waynesboro police can now be paid online. According to Sgt. Angela Reeves, records supervisor for the police department, a new municipal court Web site went online about two weeks ago. The web site allows anyone 21 or older to pay fines with a credit or debit card.

      The following arrests and incidents were reported by the Burke County Sheriff's Office for the past week: Friday, Feb. 8 • Carlton Jones Jr., 27, of 3204 Bates Road, Waynesboro, was arrested for one misdemeanor count of probation violation and one felony count of probation violation.
