The Bears didn't take much off their region basketball foes to the south this weekend. The Burke County High School boys (14-6, 5-4) mauled the Mustangs from South Effingham High School 73-44 Friday and bagged another sub-region victory over Richmond Hill High School 60-50 Saturday night. More ... Burke County High School pitcher Trent Hillis is heading to the hills to hurl fast balls for Berry College in Rome. Hillis signed with the Vikings yesterday (Tuesday) to play on scholarship. The Burke County High School girls (12-8, 5-5) ended a three-game losing streak with wins over South Effingham and Richmond Hill high schools last weekend, and yet again the younger players showed off their ability to compete. More ... GISA AA giant Trinity Christian School had a long ride back to Dublin last Tuesday. The Crusaders, who ended last season as the Region 2-AA runner up, were dealt a 9-point loss by Edmund Burke Academy. Spartan head coach Todd Layton said the boys (11-6, 1-4) were excited to capture their first region win. More ... The Lady Spartans pulled out a huge win over John Hancock last Monday but finished up the week with two region losses. During the first half of Edmund Burke's match against John Hancock, the Lady Rebels put up a fight, trailing by just a point after the first quarter and heading to the locker room at halftime a point ahead.
