GBI probes teenager's claim of police brutality
A Waynesboro teen says he was brutally attacked by a veteran deputy, but officers say the claim is unfounded.

      The GBI is investigating a Waynesboro teenager's claim that a Burke County deputy used unnecessary and excessive force when he struck him with a baton. "It's not a question of whether he was hit," said Gary Nicholson, Special Agent in charge of the Thomson GBI office. "The bottom line is whether or not the force used was necessary.

      XXX-boyfriend A Keysville woman contacted authorities after discovering her ex-boyfriend used her identity to purchase porn. According to a report, the ex used her checking account without permission 19 times between Aug. 21-Dec. 20, 2007, racking up $495 in charges to different porn sites.

Three fires in nine days

      A series of fires has left two homes destroyed and a backyard in ruins. The first fire erupted Sunday, Jan. 13. Firefighters reported to a North Lake Drive residence, where they found heavy fire blazing from the roof. According to a report filed at the Burke County EMA, the heat from the fire prohibited firefighters from entering the residence any further than the garage.

      The following arrests and incidents were reported by the Burke County Sheriff's Office for the past week: Friday, Jan. 18 • Kenneth Elliott James Jr., 32, of 998 Four Points Road, Keysville, was arrested for battery and cruelty to children in the third degree (Family Violence Act). A $2,600 property bond was posted.
