BCHS wrestlers take down Cross Creek

Burke County High School wrestler Jonathan Davis holds down a Screven County Gamecock in a match that he won in short order last week. Burke County's wrestling team defeated Cross Creek High School last Tuesday but fell to Screven County and Westside high schools. At the region duals at South Effingham High School the previous weekend, BCHS tied for third with Hephzibah and Richmond Hill high schools. Head coach Garry Fulcher said the team is busy preparing for the Traditional Area Tournament, which is set for Feb. 15, at South Effingham. So far, senior Marcus Stephens, defending region champion, is enjoying a good season with a 25-4 record. "He is providing excellent leadership to a very young team," Fulcher said. The next home event is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 29, at the Burke County Alternative School gymnasium.
