Blanchard chosen to represent EBA at HOBY

From Staff Reports

Wilson Blanchard, a sophomore at Edmund Burke Academy, has been selected to represent his class at the Hugh O'Brian Leadership Conference to be held in the summer of 2008.

"To teach young people to think for themselves," is the mission of the Hugh O'Brian Youth Founda- tion, a national organization in existence for more than 40 years. Founded by Hugh O'Brian, the seminar seeks to recognize and reward leadership potential. The seminar invites an outstanding sophomore from each public and private high school around the state to be a representative at a weekend of leadership workshops. The format is to bring a select group of young people together with a group of distinguished leaders and let them interact.

Blanchard, an honor roll student at EBA, is a member of the Headmaster's Advisory Board, the Interact Club, SADD (Students against Destructive Decisions), the Fellowship of Christian Students and the Literary Society. He enjoys playing tennis and participates on the Spartan tennis team.

Recently, he went to Charlotte, N.C., to volunteer at the Operation Christmas Child Factory to help with the organization of their Christmas mission.

He is the son of Phillip and Coral Blanchard of Waynesboro.

Blanchard is being sponsored for the event by the Burke County Town and Country Woman's Club.
