Bears tame Wolfpack
      The Bears capped off the weekend with a win Saturday night over Greenbrier High School. The Burke County High School boys team (8-4, 0-2) won 47-36 on the Wolfpack's home court. Senior DeVonda Lewis and junior Bobby Burum led the Bears in scoring with 15 points each. Sophomore Martaveous Smith tacked on another 7.

Bears take second in tournament
      Burke County finished as runner ups in the Sweet South Classic Tournament in Madison just after Christmas. The Bears edged out Chattanooga Christian School in overtime to win 65-63 and took out Brewbaker Technology Magnet School of Montgomery, Ala. 69-63.

Lady Bears take two losses over the weekend
      Unfortunately for freshman Antornia Walker, her best game of the year didn't equal a win for the Lady Bears Saturday night. She posted 40 points against Greenbrier High School, but the Burke County High School girls (7-5, 0-2) suffered a 79- 63 loss.

Lady Bears record two wins at tournament
      After losing their first game at Sweet South Classic Tournament in Madison, the Lady Bears didn't let it happen again. They handed Brewbaker Technology Magnet School a 52-45 loss and edged out Decatur High School 72-70. Against Brew Tech, Yasma Lynch led the Lady Bears with 18 points.

Spartans, Lady Spartans lose first region game
      Christmas break took its toll on the boys and girls varsity basketball teams at Edmund Burke Academy - they both lost their first region games of the season against Trinity Christian School last Friday in Dublin. The boys (8-2, 0-1) lagged by just 12 points at the conclusion of the game, with the Crusaders on top, 62-50.

Local football players selected for all-area, all-state
      Several local football standouts have been named among the best. Cornelius Washington, a senior at Burke County High School, was listed on the Georgia Sports Writers Association all-state football team for Class AAA as an honorable mention selection.

BCHS wrestlers near top at tournament
      Burke County High School wrestler Marcus Stephens tries to take down his opponent at the Mark Toomey Invitational Tournament held at Groves High School in Savannah last weekend. Stephens went on to take second place in his 135 weight class.

Good blood - Littermates take Georgia Derby Championship
      The unheard of happened at the Georgia Field Trials Saturday when littermates claimed the top two spots in the Georgia Derby Championship. The two dogs, one female and the other a male, have different owners and trainers.
