Bird dogs sniff out trail to Burke
      Burke County's bird dog population will increase exponentially this week as the annual field trials begin at Di- Lane Plantation. The Georgia Field Trial Association will begin running the Georgia Derby Championship today (Jan. 2), according to secretary/ treasurer Nell Mobley.

Exchange students need host families
      The World Heritage Student Exchange program is looking for Burke County families interested in hosting high school students from France, Germany, Thailand, Japan, Mexico, Switzerland, Denmark and Italy. According to a company spokesperson, the students are seeking host families for the 2008-2009 school year.

Local conservation district names outstanding steward
      The Brier Creek Soil and Water Conservation District has named Cathy Black as their 2007 Conservationist of the Year. The board selects an outstanding steward each year from its district, which includes Burke, Glascock, Jefferson, Jenkins and Richmond counties. Burke County is represented on the board by Henry Wayne Syms and Charles E. McGregor III.
