County offers $1,000 for information
By Diana Royal Staff Writer

If you know who's vandalizing county property, you could be $1,000 richer for sharing that information.

The Burke County Board of Commissioners is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of individuals vandalizing county property, roads and equipment.

County administrator Merv Waldrop said this includes damaging roadways, road signs and county equipment, vandalizing buildings and the theft of signs or equipment.

"We have had quite a bit of vandalism throughout the county lately, and we intend to prosecute," Waldrop said. "This vandalism costs the taxpayers thousands of dollars each year and can create very dangerous conditions when warning signs, barricades and stop signs are removed." He also said that individuals and their families could be liable for civil damages if their actions result in an accident or injury to others.

Anyone with information should contact the Burke County Sheriff 's Office at 706-554- 2133.
