Man shot at Magnolia Acres
By Elizabeth Billips Associate Editor

A Waynesboro man was shot Friday afternoon, and his girlfriend's teenager is accused of pulling the trigger.

Sammie Habersham, 51, was rushed to Medical College of Georgia just after 1 p.m. with two gunshots wounds.

Gene Boseman, chief investigator for the Waynesboro Police Department, said the shooting was precipitated by a heated argument inside the victim's Magnolia Acres apartment.

"One thing led to another, and two shots were fired from a small caliber handgun," investigator Boseman said.

Habersham suffered two wounds, a primary one just above the navel and a graze to the arm. EMA Chief Rusty Sanders said he appeared to be in stable condition at the time of the transport.

At press time Friday, police were looking for Donald Cooper, the 17-year-old son of Habersham's girlfriend. Investigator Boseman said the teenager is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
