Lost!
By Abigail Rae Heatwole Ms. Eshleman's 2nd Grade Class, Waynesboro Mennonite School

My only hope was to follow the tracks through the snow.

But I kept thinking, Christmas is coming so soon. And then I fell asleep in the snow.

The next thing I knew, I heard a sound. But it was not a friendly sound. It was a very scary sound. It sounded like this: GROWL! GROWL!

And then I remembered Christmas was coming!

Christmas! Christmas! The word echoed through my head.

And then I remembered the sound. Suddenly, something popped up from the bushes! I was so startled that I jumped. Then I saw what it was. It was a bear! The bear gave a soft growl. The bear had cubs.

By then, I was so scared that I ran away as fast as I could go. Then the subject of Christmas came back. How would I ever find my way home? Now this is why I am lost.

I was following a stream in the woods. Then I wandered off. Later when I turned back, I could not find the stream. Then I fell asleep, dreaming of Christmas.

I dreamed that my gift was a box for keeping things in. Then, I woke up.

I decided to try to find my way home. The next morning I found my familiar place.

It was home! Oh, home sweet home!

I was so glad to be home. I was tired, too. And I had come home on Christmas Eve! I was just in time.

And it was a wonderful Christmas.
