Danny T. Jones, Executive Director of Dublin-Laurens County Recreation Authority, was recently installed as President of the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association for the upcoming year at the annual GRPA conference installation banquet in Jekyll Island.
Prior to accepting his present position as DLCRA Executive Director in 1999, Jones served in both rural and metropolitan areas in Georgia, including the position of director of Kennesaw Parks and Recreation in Kennesaw. Prior to that, Jones served as director of the Waynesboro-Burke County Recreation Department from July 1976-June 1994. He was employed as the program coordinator for the WBCRD from December 1974-November 1975. Jones also served as athletic director for Monroe Recreation and Parks Department in 1974.
Before being installed as president, Jones served in many leadership capacities in GRPA. He has 34 years of experience in the Parks and Recreation profession and graduated from Georgia Southern College in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in public recreation.
"I am truly blessed to have the support and dedication of my seven-person recreation authority governing board," Jones said. "I have a staff that are team players and take great pride in service to our community … Also, I have been an active member in GRPA since 1974. During that time, I have had role models and been afforded the opportunity to have such great interpersonal relationships and inspiration in the profession. Through this organization, I have made friends that have been like family to me for a time period spanning over three decades. Without all of these individuals on my team, I would not have the opportunity to experience such professional growth and I am, indeed, grateful to be part of such a fine organization as Dublin-Laurens County Recreation Authority, as well as of Georgia Recreation and Parks Association."
The Georgia Recreation and Park Association was formed in 1945 as a private, non-profit Institution to support and promote the recreation and park industries within the state of Georgia. It is the only state organization that serves as an advocate for quality recreation and park areas, facilities, programs and services at the local level.
Jones is originally from Monroe and is the son of the late Cassie Ivey Jones Huff and the late Thomas Jones of Monroe. He is married to the former Angie McNair, and they have two sons, Zack Jones of Texas, and Sam Goodin of Waynesboro. Their two grandchildren, Bo and Memory Kate Goodin, are both active sports enthusiasts and participants at Edmund Burke Academy as well as recreation participants in their local Burke County Recreation Department, where it all began for Jones in 1974.
