The Lady Bears started the season off right last weekend.
The Burke County High School girls basketball team (2- 0) bagged two wins, beating Jenkins County High School Friday 51-33 and Jefferson County High School Saturday 53-45.
Head coach Angelica Collins said winning the first game of the season gave her girls some steam.
"It gave my girls a lot of confidence," she said after the win over Jenkins County. "That's one behind us and twenty-something to go. We want to build on it and take it one game at a time."
Junior Yasma Lynch and freshman Antornia Walker led the Lady Bears with 11 points each, both 3-4 at the free-throw line.
Senior Synquis Givens put up 10, and junior Whitney Jenkins shot for 8, sinking a threepointer along the way.
Against Jefferson County, Walker again played a big role for Burke County, scoring 15 points and wreaking havoc under the Lady Warriors' goal with 7 defensive rebounds. Senior Kiondra Mobley shot for 9, including 2 three-pointers. Jenkins and Givens each recorded 8 points.
Eddriss Miles snatched up 6 rebounds under Jefferson County's basket, and Mobley grabbed 5.
The Lady Bears took on Harlem High School Tuesday, but scores were not available at press time.
Burke County will host Liberty County High School Friday at 7 p.m. and Evans High School Saturday at 5 p.m.
