     Burke County's junior varsity teams tipped off the season last weekend as well. The JV boys beat Jenkins County 67-20 and lost to Jefferson County 60-45. The JV girls suffered losses to both Jenkins and Jefferson counties, 29-11 and 43-26, respectively.

      The Lady Bears started the season off right last weekend. The Burke County High School girls basketball team (2- 0) bagged two wins, beating Jenkins County High School Friday 51-33 and Jefferson County High School Saturday 53-45.

Spartans go 2-0 to start season

      While the Spartans may have conquered only one basketball game last season, so far this year, Edmund Burke is undefeated on the court. They claimed two wins last week, defeating Nathanael Greene Academy 48-35 and Twiggs Academy, 72-34.

Kittrell leading scorer in Lady Spartans wins

      The Lady Spartans outscored their opponents last week 106- 56 as they picked up two wins in regular season basketball. The first win came last Tuesday against Nathanael Greene Academy. Senior Katie Kittrell led the girls to victory, racking up 24 points in the 56-35 triumph.
