Letters to the Editor Burke needs a 'dog warden' Editor: A week ago Sunday I was over at Pops Kountry store on Farmers Bridge Road. I, and some other patrons, witnessed a vehicle stopping and dumping out a black dog. Then, it took off at a high rate of speed. The dog tried to run to catch the vehicle but couldn't, and the dog returned to the exact spot it was dumped out and preceded to cry and cry, almost human-like. I don't know your name, but I do know your vehicle and if I see it again and get your license plate number, I will personally turn you in and testify against you. An act like this is against the law. It is a misdemeanor - it is under the criminal act code 4- 8-3. Just think how much that dog thought of you to cry like that. You are one sick person. This is just one more reason why Burke County needs a dog pound and a dog warden. R. D. Manchester Jr. Blythe Why do teachers wear their colors? Editor: Do your children complain of racial acts in the classroom? During open house last year, there was a sign on my son's teacher's wall that said, "AKA educating our students for the future." I wondered what the AKA had to do with educating my child. I found out quickly that it was not my child's interest at heart. It was the children of a different race. Why do teachers display in classrooms and "wear their colors?" Society does not like gang activity, but some teachers promote this in our schools by associating children with their fraternity or sorority. Why not be a Bear fan? My son's teacher who lived in Richmond County expressed the desire to get out of Burke as fast as possible. Yes, I did complain to the principal as well as other parents, and talked to Mr. Roberts. If you are still having these problems, express your disapproval. Before last year, my son knew nothing about college groups and came out of the fifth grade racial biased. This is not what we teach at home. Love for self and heritage is one thing, but to put others down, especially in a teaching position, is another. Why do we hire teachers who don't want to be in Burke anyway? Pledge an allegiance to us or keep on moving. There was a male teacher in this group whom we also complained about. He bribed children with candy. How inappropriate - massage my neck in the back of the classroom with lights off during a movie. This is how a sex offender starts. A little bribe and favors get bigger and bigger. Mr. Sams and I talked about this. He assured me he did not like this. I told him it may not be what it is, but what it looks like. I asked him if this is what he wanted his school to look like, and he said, "No." I am still trying to undo what a few teachers have messed up. How does Blakeney look this year? Is it still racial biased or are there bribes going on? I wonder how many children have had to go through what my child experienced last year in the fifth grade. He has turned in a way that I am not proud of, and I fight and pray every day that he will change. A few teachers can change what we, as parents, try to make perfect since our children's birth.
