Restaurant robbed at gunpoint Friday
Two businesses burglarized
By Elizabeth Billips Associate Editor

Taylor's Barbecue employees were held at gunpoint Friday night.

Waynesboro police arrived at the 13th Street restaurant around 10:20 p.m. to find an empty cash register drawer on the porch and four shaken employees inside.

They told police that two black men rushed into the restaurant and forced one employee onto the floor. They robbed him, then robbed another employee and ordered her to empty the register.

A third employee, who unknowingly walked in on the holdup, was pushed against a wall, while a fourth employee remained in the back, not realizing that his fellow-workers were being robbed.

According to investigators, there were no customers in the store.

Two days later, police were dispatched to break-ins at two Waynesboro businesses.

Just after 2 a.m. Sunday, the security alarm was activated at Del-Mac when someone pried open the front door. According to the police report, the burglar carried the ATM machine into the parking lot but dropped it and fled before police arrived.

Sometime that morning, a nearby laundromat was also burglarized. An undisclosed amount of money was stolen after the burglar cut a hole in the side of the money changer.

According to Lt. Mary Bennett of the Waynesboro Police Department, investigators believe the two burglaries may be related.

Anyone with information on the armed robbery or burglaries is asked to call investigators at 706-554-8029.
