BCHS students place in FFA events Burke County FFA member Zack Quick recently placed fifth in the Area 4 FFA Prepared Public Speaking Career Devel- opment Event. The event was held at Jefferson County High School on Nov. 1. Fellow FFA member Heather Wells placed first in the Sub-Area 4 FFA Creed Career Development Event held the following week. The FFA Prepared Public Speaking Career Development Event is designed to develop agricultural leadership. Participants are required to write and deliver a speech on an agricultural related topic. The participants are judged on content and composition of the manuscript, voice, stage presence, power of expression, general effect and response to questions asked by a panel of judges. The FFA Creed Career Development Event allows students to develop leadership skills by participating in public speaking activities and by stimulating interest in leadership and citizenship. Participants must recite the FFA creed from memory and answer questions from the judges indicating familiarity with the subject and the ability to think quickly. FFA is a national organization of over 449,000 members preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture. FFA is an integral part of the agricultural education program in public schools. The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. Quick, a junior, is the son of Lisa Dean of Waynesboro. Wells, a freshman, is the daughter of Karen Wells of Waynesboro. Andy TenHuisen and Catrina Kennedy are the Burke County FFA advisors. Both events are sponsored by the Georgia FFA Foundation. |
