10 years ago: Nov. 26, 1997

Burke County High School quarterback/free safety Charles Jones was named the CSRA Player of the Year. He was selected from more than 60 high schools in Georgia and South Carolina. The Burke County team was putting their 10-1 record on the line in a playoff game against Cairo.

Steve Link purchased the local Chrysler dealership. He had been managing the business for Chrysler Financial since August.

25 years ago: Nov. 24, 1982

Southern Company president Alvin W. Vogtle said that it was not inconceivable that Units 3 and 4 at Plant Vogtle would be built at some point in the future. The two proposed units had previously been cancelled, but Units 1 and 2 were under construction.

Retired farmer Paul Drake displayed huge collard green plants, some weighed more than 12 pounds.

50 years ago: Nov. 28, 1957

Trailways buses were chartered for local football fans to make the trip to Monticello, where the WHS Purple Hurricanes would be battling for the South Georgia Class C Championship.

H. W. Stone and Holder Watson were vying for election as Mayor of Waynesboro.

Miss Jacqueline Ann DeLoach became the bride of William Henry Harper Jr. in ceremonies at the Waynesboro Methodist Church.

75 years ago: Nov. 25, 1932

It was estimated that "90 percent of the forest land in Burke County burned last year." E. L. Stephenson of the Georgia Forest Service made his headquarters here in an effort to reduce fire hazards.
