Snow in the forecast for Christmas on Liberty Downtown Waynesboro will have a snowy surprise this Friday, Nov. 30, for the annual Christmas on Liberty Square. Bring a carrot, a scarf or anything creative to First Liberty Market and decorate your own snowman at the DOOR (Downtown Organization of Retailers) sponsored Winter Wonderland. According to DOOR chairman Nan Palmer Lynch, the parking lot will be covered in snow - allowing for visitors to stop to build snowmen, snow angels or even toss around a few snowballs. The wonderland will be ready for guests as Christmas on Liberty begins at 5:30 p.m. and will continue until the event's end at 9. Two security officers will also be on duty to supervise the area. Children will have many activities to choose from throughout the night, including story time with Santa Claus, ornament making, train rides, ice skating and photo ops with Santa and even a reindeer. The Elf Shop will be open to give them a chance to find an inexpensive gift for someone special. The Burke County High School Handbell and Choir, as well as dancers from Center Stage Dance Academy and Quick Steps School of Dance, will perform at First Liberty Market. Downtown shops will be open, offering up Christmas discounts, and vendors will line the streets selling purses, jewelry, makeup, Tupperware, cooking supplies, homemade goodies and hot foods - everything from potato soup to s'mores, boiled peanuts and popcorn. The event is sponsored by DOOR.
