Murder suspect still at large
By Elizabeth Billips Associate Editor

Stanley Howard, aka "Miami," is wanted for the murder of Damian Wright.
Nearly three months have passed since 16-year-old Damian Wright was gunned down in the Westgate neighborhood - but investigators are no closer to finding his killer.

For 11 weeks now, they've been hunting for 38-year-old Stanley Howard, a Florida native who goes by the street name "Miami."

Witnesses say that on Aug. 5, Howard shot the teenager in the arm and forehead, then drove away in a white 1993 Bonneville that he stole from an onlooker.

According to Gary Nicholson, special agent in charge of the Thomson office of the GBI, neither Howard nor the car has been seen since.

"There's been no sign of either," he said, noting that Howard could be hiding in Florida or Virginia where he has connections.

Howard has an extensive criminal history in both states ranging from drugs to burglaries, robberies and assaults on police officers. In 1994, he was arrested for murder, but that charge was later dropped.

Officers say Howard is considered armed and extremely dangerous.

A substantial reward is offered by the Waynesboro Police Department for information leading to Howard's arrest. Anyone with a tip is asked to call investigators at 706-554-8029.
