Fire Marshal investigates blaze

The state fire marshal will investigate a blaze that destroyed two mobile homes last week.

According to EMA Chief Rusty Sanders, firefighters were called to Farmers Bridge Road last Friday night to find both trailers completely engulfed in flames.

No one was in either trailer, although the property owner did arrive shortly thereafter.

Chief Sanders called the fire a total loss for the owner, who didn't have insurance on either home. The fire also destroyed his jet ski, station wagon, camper trailer and three fishing boats.

Chief Sanders said an arson investigation will be conducted since it appears that the damage was caused by separate fires.

According to a report filed at the Burke County Sheriff's Office, the victim was hit with more trouble the very next day. While he was away, someone came onto the property and stole a four-seater golf cart that had been spared from the flames.
