Fast fingers

Morika Grubbs shows off how fast she can pull peanuts from the vine during her class's visit to the Southeast Georgia Research and Education Center in Midville last Wednesday. Grubbs said she has had plenty of practice picking peanuts with her granddaddy, who likes to boil them each fall. All of the fourth-graders in the county visited the University of Georgia facility last week as part of phase two of the Burke County Extension Service's Ag Awareness program. The students came as third-graders in the spring during planting season and returned this fall to see crops harvested. They also learned about beef cattle, gardening and wildlife and decorated scarecrows that will be on display at the Waynesboro Exchange Club Fair next week.
