Edmund Burke DAR

The Edmund Burke National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will hold a membership luncheon 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at The Meeting Place.

Dress is casual.

S.G.A. Discovery

S.G.A. Elementary School is now accepting referrals for kindergarten through fifth grade.

Referrals to Discovery are automatic for students who score at or above the 90th percentile on a norm reference achievement test and/or 390 or above on the CRCT.

Teachers, counselors, administrators, parents or guardians and other individuals with knowledge of the student's abilities may also refer a student. Placement in the program is determined using criteria established by the Georgia Department of Education. Students must meet criteria in any three of the following four areas: mental ability, achievement, creativity or motivation.

Blythe Fever

The City of Blythe will hold its annual Blythe Fever Saturday, Oct. 13.

The festival will begin with a parade at 11 a.m. followed by a day filled with stage performers, arts and crafts, games, horse rides and food. A street dance will be held at 7 p.m. The Jeremy Graham Band will perform.

Free diabetic teaching

A free diabetic teaching course will be held 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 11, at Burke Medical Center.

Patients are encouraged to bring a partner or any person who helps with food preparation. Call the dietary department at 706-554-4435 to sign up or for more information. Space is limited.

Late church news

Rosemont Heights Baptist Church will celebrate its 43rd Homecoming Sunday, Oct. 14.

Sunday School will begin at 9:45 a.m. followed by worship service at 11.

The Rev. Chess Smith, past president of the Georgia Baptist Convention who pastored First Baptist Church of Tifton for more than 30 years, will deliver the sermon.

A nursery will be provided and a covered dish meal in the fellowship hall will follow the service.
